Who Is Neel Sachdev?

by
February 26, 2024

Neel Sachdev is known as one of the UK’s best corporate lawyers. He is currently the global co-chair of finance and capital markets and co-head of the London office for the Paul & Weiss partnership. He has nearly two decades of experience advising prominent private equity firms and their portfolio companies on intricate financing transactions across Europe, the United States, and Asia. His expertise includes financings related to leveraged buyouts, acquisitions, recapitalizations, and restructurings.

Paul Weiss, based in New York, approached Sachdev from rival London-based firm Kirklands in August 2023 after spending almost 20 years applying his expertise for them. This, of course, was seen as a massive coupe for Paul Weiss.

The Paul Weiss website states that “Neel has provided counsel to a multitude of esteemed financial sponsors, such as Abry, Advent, Altor, Apollo, Apax, Astorg, Bain Capital, BC Partners, Carlyle Group, Centerbridge, Core Equity Holdings, Five Arrows, Francisco Partners, GTCR, Hg Capital, Investindustrial, L-GAM, Lone Star, Oakley Capital, Pollen Street Capital, Rhone Capital, Searchlight Capital, Strategic Value Partners, Sun Capital, TA Associates, Thomas H. Lee Partners, Towerbrook Capital, Triton, Vitruvian, and Warburg Pincus, among others”.

A prominent sponsor-side leveraged finance partner for over 17 years, Neel has earned acclaim from Chambers as the “godfather of sponsor leveraged finance in Europe,” consistently being ranked at the “top of the market” in Band 1 for Banking and Finance from 2007 to 2023. Recognized as a “Leading Individual” for Acquisition Finance by The Legal 500 UK and acknowledged as a market leader by IFLR1000 UK, Neel was honoured as a “Legendary” lawyer in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 Lawyers in Europe list in 2020. He was awarded Finance Individual of the Year (London) at The Legal 500 UK Awards in 2019.

Sachdev is one of the best in the business, and it will be interesting to see where his journey takes him in his relatively new role at Paul Weiss.
