Buckingham Palace has announced that Donal McCabe will become the new public relations adviser to The Queen.

Donal McCabe, who is the former director of corporate communications at the high street bookmaker, Ladbrokes, is due to take on the new role of Communications Secretary in March.

“Mr Donal McCabe has been appointed as communications secretary to the Queen”, an official statement from Buckingham Palace stated.

“Mr McCabe was formerly director of corporate communications at Ladbrokes Coral plc where he oversaw communications for corporate, internal, and government affairs.

The court statement added that Mr McCabe’s previous roles include senior communications positions at Landsec, Boots and Railtrack. Mr McCabe’s LinkedIn page still has him listed as the Director of Corporate Communications at Ladbrokes.

Royals never out of the news

There have been a number of changes in the communications team at the royal household. The Queen’s former top PR aides, Director of Communications Sally Osman and Media Secretary Steve Kingstone, both left their roles in 2018.

McCabe will join the Palace’s communications team amid a flurry of media stories surrounding Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

The communications team has also had to deal with the fallout from Prince Philip’s car crash earlier this month. The Duke of Edinburgh voluntarily surrendered his official driving licence after a number of negative press reports in the aftermath of the crash, in which some numbers of the public were injured.
