The UK will not leave the European Union in October, according to a majority of FTSE 100 chairmen.
Eleven of the 17 chairmen polled by headhunters Korn Ferry predicted that talks will be extended, despite likely next Prime Minister Boris Johnson insisting that Brexit will happen on 31 October.
Amongst those surveyed, a number said that they believed that the next PM will not be able to push a no-deal Brexit through the House of Commons.
Korn Ferry managing partner Dominic Schofield said: “Despite the tough rhetoric that has characterised Mr Johnson’s leadership campaign, UK chairmen are unconvinced that there will be ‘no second chances’.”
Separately, last week the Labour Party shifted its position on Brexit to insist that there must be a second referendum before Britain leaves the EU.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said Labour will campaign for a Remain option to stop “no deal or a damaging Tory Brexit.”
