An events and listings app called Dojo, which offers users the best things to do in a places like London, and was backed by former London Mayor, Boris Johnson, said it is ceasing operations from the end of March.

In a post on the app’s Facebook page, Dojo’s editor in chief, Duncan Griffiths, wrote: “It’s with a sizeable lump in our throat and a small tear rolling down our cheek that we’re writing this to tell you that the Dojo dream is coming to an end.”

He didn’t explain exactly the reasons for the company closing down, but funding seems to be one of the main issues.

The app raised £800,000 in 2015 from a group of investors including Playfair Capital, ad agency M&C Saatchi’s venture capital arm, and the London Co-Investment Fund (LCIF), an initiative set up by then Mayor of London Boris Johnson to support tech startups in the capital, Yahoo Finance reported.

Johnson once praised Dojo as being “wonderful” and it was also backed by the founders of Innocent Smoothies and the founders of Google DeepMind.

“We hope to find a good home for Dojo, but as for now we’ve decided to go out with a bang,” Griffiths wrote in the Facebook post.

“Until the end of March, we’re gonna be counting down our top 25 venues in London on the home-feed alongside some of our favourite features and pieces of content from the last few years. After that, you’ll still be able to use Dojo for the categories function until sometime in summer.”
