While Tutankhamun: The Immersive Experience drew widespread acclaim for its cutting-edge video mapping, holograms, and VR earlier this year, an equally vital innovation operated quietly behind the scenes: a sophisticated smart locker system designed to manage the demands of thousands of daily visitors.

Running for 14 weeks at Immerse LDN and supported by the Grand Egyptian Museum, the exhibition transformed over 26,000 square feet into a digital journey through Ancient Egypt. But with high-tech environments requiring visitors to be hands-free and fully focused, the success of the event relied not only on immersive storytelling but on a secure, efficient, and technologically advanced storage solution that kept the entire experience flowing.

A Smart Solution

To meet the demands of a high-traffic, technology-heavy exhibition, the event operators FKP Scorpio and Magpie Event Solutions required a locker system that was not only secure but also intelligent, robust, and effortless for visitors to use. They turned to furniture design and manufacture specialist Bisley, which delivered a solution through its Primary Plus lockers, fitted with 208 doors and integrated BeSmart technology.

From its London HQ on Dallington Street, Bisley provided a smart system that offers dual access options. Users either scan a unique QR code displayed throughout the locker area or use an integrated terminal. This allows visitors to choose the method that suits them. Once activated, the corresponding door automatically pops open, streamlining identification and access while removing common friction points found in traditional locker setups.

Behind the scenes, digital authentication, timed sessions, and automated release make sure lockers reset instantly for the next user. The units are both durable and ventilated, so they withstand continuous footfall and store everything from coats to laptops.

The success of Tutankhamun: The Immersive Experience is indicative of the public’s continued fascination with Ancient Egypt. Egyptian mythology and aesthetics continue to shape everything from TV dramas and documentaries to fashion, music, and gaming. Recent screen favourites include Paramount’s Tut, the BBC’s Egypt, and Apple TV’s Bradley Walsh: Egypt’s Cosmic Code, each tapping into audiences’ desire to explore the civilisation’s mysteries.

Elsewhere, iconic moments such as Michael Jackson’s Remember the Time and The Bangles’ Walk Like an Egyptian have kept its imagery in the global spotlight. iGaming, meanwhile, has become one of the strongest sectors for modern Egyptomania. Popular video slots like Book of Dead and Cleopatra have been joined by new releases such as Pyramid of Ra, which features the industry’s first triangular reel configuration, and Reign of Anubis, to dominate player interest, for example. Ancient Egypt remains a cultural touchstone, which makes the immersive exhibition in London that celebrates its myths and marvels an easy hit with the public.

Secure Storage at Scale

Ultimately, what set the London run of Tutankhamun: The Immersive Experience apart was not only its spectacular storytelling but the invisible infrastructure that supported it. The high-tech locker system proved essential in keeping crowds moving, devices protected, and visitors fully immersed. By ensuring seamless, secure storage at scale, the technology quietly underpinned the exhibition’s success and demonstrated that behind every groundbreaking cultural experience lies an equally innovative operational solution.
